The Sablewood is a magnificent wedding venue that sits at the bottom of the northern Catskill Mountains. Not only does it have many beautiful sites and breathtaking mountain views, but it's full of a ton of awesome history! Originally, The Sablewood was built as a multi-functional barn. It housed horses, cows, chickens and many other animals and had a huge hayloft upstairs! The impressive barn beams were hand hewed by local craftsman from timber that came from the valley. The barn's original entrance is still used today as The Sablewood's “grand entrance” and the original hayloft ladders are still displayed. In 2018, after much time and effort, hard work, and lots of love had been poured into making it what it is today, The Sablewood opened!
Let's start our tour by walking around the outside of the barn.
I'm sure by now you've noticed The Sablewood's unique rich black wooden siding in which it is named for. In 1961, the farm was sold to a new owner who had traveled to Kentucky and, while there, admired all of the tobacco barns that were painted black. Although they were painted black to help raise the temperature inside the barn, it later became a fashion statement in which this new owner decided to follow the trend and paint his barn, all the way back in Upstate, NY, sable black!
The inside is just as amazing! With so many of the original beams and beautiful open structure, The Sablewood has so much natural beauty to offer their couples! So many of the little details have been saved, reconstructed, or recreated by the owners. It is so important to them to keep as much history alive as possible.

The Sablewood hosts weddings year around. Spring and Summer show off their stunning flower gardens. Fall showcases mountain views with the deep, rich colors of the Autumn leaves. Then there's Winter. I only have one word for that: MAGICAL. Upstate, NY is known for its spectacular snowy winters with glistening treetops and snow covered mountains that will take your breath away.
During the warmer months, there are several picturesque locations for your ceremony, and during the colder months, you can have your ceremony inside the barn.

So, before we take a look at all the outside gardens, let's first look at the stunning getting ready suites. Full of natural light, open beams and gorgeous chandeliers, these spacious rooms have beautifully hand crafted counters and stools and even has awesome white salon chairs.
